Matilija Farm

Our house is tucked just behind the neighborhood community garden on a sunny lot in downtown Benicia, down a picturesque alleyway with a view of the bay. We have chickens, an honor system farmstand, and a small, diverse market garden where we grow food and flowers for ourselves and our community. ...

About the Host
Stephany Gocobachi
My partner Akhil and I are a couple of cooks who found ourselves with time to spare during the pandemic...and found a half acre farm to rent while looking for used garden tools on Craigslist. We later moved to the house we are currently in, and started fixing up the garden here as well as set up an honor system farmstand behind our home to share what we were harvesting. We are just outside of San Francisco, in a back alley off the Main Street of a quirky seaside town called Benicia. We had been living in SF until last spring, and NYC before that, so this has been our first garden outside of fire escape herbs and succulents. Honestly, I think the garden and farmstand have kept us from utterly losing it this past year, and it’s been such a beautiful change of scenery from kitchen life. These spaces have been a sanctuary for us and our community, and we’d love to extend it to others.
